True audiophiles are in love with luxury speakes that not only look good but also provide awesome sound quality. We have seen many luxury speakers such as amazing La Sphere speakers, The Audiorama 9000 speakers from Grundig or the compact iO2 speakers from the house of Cabasse, all speakers mostly made of wood.
But, now to break the tradition of using wood in the speaker technology, an Israeli designer Shmuel Linski has designed a speaker made of concrete as a part of his graduation project. Yes, although we all know that concrete is not a right choice to create a sound medium as its stiffness distorts the sound, and weighs a lot more than a typical speaker. The designer molded a pair of floor standing speakers based on horn loudspeaker technology.
The speakers are made of very basic driver at the top and bass port for the base part. Linked with 96cm pipe, the driver and port are attached to each other and are not lined with any sound absorbent material. The horn speaker technology is made even without padding the speakers from inside, and because of the concrete as the prime material used in it; it may sound a bit strange. The price of this unique piece is still not known but this weighs a bulky 56kg a pair.
The designer of these distinctive project states:
"In my work I tried to give, in addition to great aesthetics, practical reasons for using concrete as a main material in a product. When concrete meets sound, it might distort the sound, because the concrete is very stiff (usually speakers are made of wood or MDF)."
